history
The church was built on the site of the wooden church of Saints Zacharias and Elisabeth , which was destroyed by fire in 1756 . It is located in the historical center of Tobolsk, on the market square. The construction took place from 1759 to 1776 (according to other information until 1771) under the direction of the builder Andrei Gorodnitschew. The church has a total of six altars . The main altar was dedicated to the resurrection of Jesus Christ . Another altar is dedicated to Saints Zacharias and Elizabeth. Because of this, as well as because of the name of the earlier wooden church, the church is often incorrectly called Church of Saints Zacharias and Elisabeth (or simply Zacharjewkirche ).
Under the Soviet rule, the church was closed for services and the building was used by various organizations, and even as living space. All towers (five on the main body and two on the apse) including domes and the bell tower were destroyed; the iconostasis and the bells were lost. In the mid-1990s, the church building was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church . Its extensive restoration and restoration took almost 20 years. On February 24, 2017, it was rededicated to a service.

The monumental Church of the Resurrection of Christ is a model of the "Siberian Baroque" and is a cultural monument with federal significance under monument protection. The ensemble includes the church building, the refectory and the bell tower . The high, cubic main structure of the church building, with a pentagonal apse , is crowned by a two-tier dome. The dome has five octagonal towers, each tower is crowned by a small onion-shaped dome (so-called Makowka ). The church building is two-story, the second floor has two rows of windows.
