Christiaan Marie Jan Sicking

Christiaan Marie Jan Sicking , formally CMJ Sicking , informally Chris Sicking (born May 17, 1933 in The Hague ; † January 13, 2000 ) was a Dutch Graecist .

Sicking received his doctorate in 1962 at the University of Leiden with a dissertation entitled Aristophanes' Ranae: een hoofdstuk uit de geschiedenis der Griekse poetica . After some time at the Nederlandsch Lyceum in The Hague, he was appointed Professor of Greek Linguistics and Literature Studies in Leiden in 1964 as the successor to Bernard Abraham van Groningen . On November 27th of this year he gave his inaugural speech on the subject of Aeschylus' Prometheus trilogy . In addition to two works on the theory of the verbal aspect and a study on the use of Greek particles , the systematization of Greek metrics was the focus of his work.
