Christian Kiening

Christian Kiening (* 1962 ) is a German literary , cultural and media scholar . He teaches as full professor of German literature at the University of Zurich .

Life

Kiening studied German philology , history and philosophy in Munich. In 1989 he was there with a dissertation on Wolfram von Eschenbach Willehalm at Hans Fromm doctorate . In 1992/93 he was a fellow at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme in Paris. In 1995/96 a post-doctoral thesis on Johannes von Tepl Ackermann followed . Since 2000 he has been full professor for German Medieval Studies at the University of Zurich.

Kiening researches and teaches about Middle High German literature. His research interests are the representation of death in the late Middle Ages, storytelling in the Middle Ages, specifically medieval patterns of meaning (such as that of the family) as well as the mediality and materiality of medieval literature.

He is co-editor of the German quarterly journal for literary studies and intellectual history , the Old German Text Library, the series of historical semantics, media change - media change - media knowledge, philology of culture and medieval perspectives.
