Christian Meidlinger

Christian Meidlinger (born October 9, 1963 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Since 2007 he has been a member of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the Vienna City Council and chairman of the union of municipal employees .

education and profession

Christian Meidlinger learned the profession of electromechanic for low-voltage current, which he practiced between 1979 and 1983, including his training. He was then foreman for industrial electronics until 1989 and taught telecommunications and electronics at the TGM for professionals.

Political and trade union activity

Christian Meidlinger became involved in the union at an early stage and was youth chairman of the Wiener Verkehrsbetriebe from 1981 to 1987 and youth chairman of the union of municipal employees (GdG) in Vienna from 1985 to 1988. In 1987 he rose to the position of federal youth chairman of the GdG and until 1988 was chairman of the Austrian Youth Union (ÖGJ) in Vienna and a member of the Federal Presidium of the ÖGJ. In 1988 he moved to the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions as a youth officer and in 1989 back to the GdG as a youth officer, where he worked until 1994. Between 1994 and 1999 Meidlinger worked as a consultant for the humanization of the world of work. Between 1999 and 2003, Meidlinger was a senior consultant at the GdG before he was elected Deputy Chairman of the GdG and a member of the ÖGB federal executive committee in 2003. Since April 2006 Meidlinger has been the executive federal chairman of the GdG and since September 2006 chairman of the GdG Vienna. In May 2007 he was elected chairman of the GdG.

In addition to his trade union activity, Meidlinger is also active in the SPÖ. He has represented the SPÖ since January 25, 2007 in the Vienna state parliament and municipal council and is a member of the committee for education, youth, information and sport.

From September 15, 2012 to August 4, 2013 he was also President of the Austrian Swimming Association. In 2013, Meidlinger had to resign from the association's chairmanship after severe internal criticism. He was charged with serious fraud in the process of large-scale subsidy fraud at the swimming association, as he is said to have given his consent to a bogus invoice (36,200 euros).
