Christian Church (Copenhagen)
The Christian Church (Danish Christians Kirke ) is a 1754-1759 rococo- style church in Christianshavn in Copenhagen . It is named after the Danish King Christian IV , who founded Christianshavn in 1611.
The building by architect Nicolai Eigtved is a transverse church with a pulpit altar , double horseshoe galleries and acoustics that make it a popular venue for concerts and theater performances.
Until 1901 the building was officially called "Frederiks German Church" (Frederiks Tyske Kirke) and served as a church for the German-speaking minority. Today it is a normal parish church of the Danish People's Church .
The whole area of the church is built with a crypt , which is used to house graves and is still used today as a burial place.
