Christianshavn
Christianshavn is a district of the Danish capital Copenhagen . It is 3.43 km² and has 10,140 inhabitants. Until 2007 it formed its own administrative district, since then it belongs administratively to the district of Indre By .
The district was created in 1619 on the initiative of King Christian IV , who invited Johan Sems to make a design . Christianshavn is located on an artificial island southeast of the city center. The canal system from the 17th century is still intact today.
The city center is to the west. It is separated from Christianshavn by the ports of Inderhavnen and Københavns Havn and connected to it by the Knippelsbro and, since 2016, by the Inderhavnsbroen for cyclists and pedestrians. In the southeast are the quarters Vestamager , Sundbyvester and Sundbyøster , separated from the city moat ( Stadsgraven ). In the north and east lies the Öresund (Baltic Sea).
The self-proclaimed free city of Christiania is located in the quarter . Christianshavn was also known as the location of the television series Oh, these tenants (Danish: Huset på Christianshavn ; 1970–1977) and the accompanying feature film Ballade på Christianshavn (1971).
