Coordinates: 36 ° 3 ′  S , 146 ° 57 ′  E Albury City is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 305.9 km² and has about 51,100 inhabitants.

Albury City is located in the south of the state on the Murray River on the border with the state of Victoria and west of Lake Hume about 550 km from Sydney and 300 km from Melbourne on the direct connection between the two metropolises, the Hume Highway . The area consists of 20 hamlets and towns: Albury , Corrys Wood, East Albury, Ettamogah, Glenroy, Hamilton Valley, Hume Weir, Lake Hume Village, Lavington, Mungabareena, North Albury, South Albury, Splitters Creek, Springdale Heights, St Hilaire, Thurgoona , West Albury, Wirlinga and parts of Jindera and Table Top. The seat of the City Council is in the city of Albury in the south of the LGA, which has about 48,000 inhabitants.

Albury's largest suburbs are Lavington, which has a major mall, and Thurgoona, which is one of the Charles Sturt University campuses in the area.

The Albury City Council has nine members who are elected by LGA residents. Albury is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
