Christian Catholic youth in Switzerland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Christian Catholic Youth of Switzerland (CKJS) is the youth association of the Christian Catholic Church . The movement began in 1884 and is now the only national youth organization within the Christian Catholic Church.

Emergence

Originally only accessible to male Christian Catholics, the Zurich Old Catholic Youth Association was founded in 1884 . Soon thereafter, other youth associations followed , all of which had the aim of getting young people enthusiastic about the Christian Catholic Church.

On September 13, 1891, the Swiss Association of Young Christ Catholics was founded in Basel . From 1909 a community was founded with the Association of Daughters , which was supposed to prepare the young Christian Catholic women for the widespread women's associations.

In 1954 the two organizations merged to form the Association of Christian Catholic Youth in Switzerland .

organization

The CKJS is headed by a central board (ZV). The six to ten members are elected annually by the general assembly. In terms of areas of responsibility, each ZV member holds one or more departments . These are:

  • Bureau
  • Vice Presidium
  • Youth group contact
  • Youth camp
  • Children's camp
  • cashbox
  • International contact
  • Ecumenical contacts
  • PR & information
  • Réveil (association magazine)

Youth groups

Various regional youth groups are affiliated with the association. Members of a youth group are automatically members of the CKJS. The aim of the youth groups is to promote contact among young Christ Catholics and thereby enrich the community life of the Christian Catholic Church.

Membership is open to all Christian Catholic youths aged 14 and over, as well as their (non-Christian Catholic) friends. Currently (2011) youth groups are active in the following regions:

effectiveness

The central board organizes around five to ten events over the course of the association's year (January 1 to December 31). These can be of a spiritual nature ( youth worship services , Advent weekend) and also serve more social purposes ( children's and youth camps , JG festivities). Most of the events are aimed at Christian Catholic youth from the age of 14.
