Youth service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A youth service is a Christian service (Protestant, Catholic, free church or ecumenical) that is specially designed for young people . As a rule, young people are involved in the development and presentation, but pastors , parents or young adults (e.g. students) are also often involved .

History and form

The youth service has developed as a target group service because the “normal” Sunday service with the agendaric liturgy , the normally used hymn book songs and an adult-oriented sermon often do not fit into the reality of young people's lives.

In youth services, therefore, topics that concern the young people are often such as. z. B. love and sexuality, school, pressure to perform, drugs, stress with parents, violence etc. are discussed. The methodology is particularly important. There is a lot of work with moderation, music, multimedia and scenic elements. For example, so-called “ New Spiritual Songs ” (NGL) or worship songs are sung in a youth service, or instead of a sermon a play or feature is performed.

Youth services are to be subdivided into the large missionary events, which are prepared and carried out with great technical, personnel and financial effort and quickly reach over 1000 young people, and the small youth services in individual parishes or districts. While the large events dominate the public image and are therefore considered unreachable by many local organizers, the large number of small youth services finds far more participants in total, especially since devotions at youth camps, etc. must be counted as youth services.

In the church service statistics of the EKD , youth worship services - in contrast to children's worship services - have not yet been specifically mentioned.
