Rectory

The Christian Catholic Rectory is a building in the old town of Aarau . It is located at Adelbändli 2 next to the town hall and is a listed building as a cultural asset of national importance .

The building was built between 1784 and 1786. The design is likely by Carl Ahasver von Sinner , and Emanuel Zehender was in charge of the construction. In 1804, the cantonal government bought the building and housed the finance council in it. From 1826 it served as the parsonage of the Roman Catholic parish, and since 1876 it has been the parsonage of the Christian Catholic parish.

Thanks to the early classicist , French-inspired Dixhuitième style, the rectory clearly stands out from the surrounding late Gothic buildings. A uniaxial risalit divides the head side symmetrically. The plastered facades have arched windows and are structured by rusticated corner strips and profiled cornices . A groove forms the transition to the hip roof (unusual for this style) .
