Karl Strosser

The Christian Conservative Party of Minden-Ravensberg was reorganized in the 1860s by the Herford mayor Karl Strosser after suffering heavy losses in the elections in Prussia in 1858. Strosser won, among others, the Jöllenbeck revival preacher Johann Heinrich Volkening to work in the party. In the long run, this was associated with an increased reputation of the party in large circles of the population shaped by the revival movement. Strosser led the party until 1872, when he was transferred from Herford to Münster.

From 1872 to 1899 the Mennighüffener revival preacher and later superintendent of the Herford parish , Theodor Schmalenbach , took over the chairmanship of the party, which in 1876 became part of the then newly founded German Conservative Party , in contrast to the Christian Conservative Party Minden -Ravensberg "stayed. In the years 1877 to 1893 the party won 16 of the 19 seats in the Reichstag to be won in the three constituencies of Minden-Ravensberg, Herford-Halle, Minden-Lübbecke and Bielefeld-Wiedenbrück. From January 1862, the party organ was the weekly paper Conservativen Volksfreund, published in Minden . Fear God, honor the king .
