Matthias Kühne (born September 27, 1987 in Wurzen ) is a German football player .

Career

Matthias Kühne, who was born in Wurzen east of Leipzig, played football for various Leipzig clubs when he was young. He started at LSV Südwest and FC Blau-Weiß before moving to VfB Leipzig , which became 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig in 2004. In the A-youth he finally went to FC Sachsen Leipzig .

In the 2006/07 season, the club tried with Eduard Geyer as coach and several well-known players to force promotion from the league. Nevertheless, Kühne also found his place in the team in his first year in the senior division and made 15 appearances, 13 of which over the full season. Nothing came of the promotion and so the central defender played his second year in the league as a regular player. The introduction of the 3rd division resulted in restructuring also at the fourth highest level and Saxony Leipzig was able to qualify for the new Regionalliga Nord.

The following year Kühne left his home and went to the fourth-class SV Elversberg for the 2008/09 season . There he also established himself as a regular player. The team played in midfield of the league for three years. The highlight of his time in Saarland was the win on penalties against Bundesliga club Hannover 96 in the first round of the DFB Cup in 2010 .

In summer 2011 Matthias Kühne received an offer from third division club SV Babelsberg 03 . He moved to the Potsdam club and played his first game in German professional football on August 2, 2011.

In July 2013, after relegation from Babelsberg, he moved to third division club MSV Duisburg . In this he was initially called up regularly before he only held a reserve role in the 2014/15 season. At the end of it, he and his team made it to the second-highest division.

For the 2016/17 season , Kühne joined the regional division FC Carl Zeiss Jena and signed a two-year contract until 2018. At the end of the season, he was promoted to the third division through a success in the promotion play-offs via Viktoria Köln . His contract is valid after two extensions until June 2020. In the meantime, Matthias Kühne is the assistant coach of the U21 team in the major league.
