Christoph (Werle)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christoph, Prince of Wenden (* after 1341 and before 1383 or 1385; † August 25, 1425 ) was Lord of Werle -Goldberg and Waren from 1385/95 to 1425 .

He was the son of John VI. von Werle and Agnes, daughter of Nikolaus IV. von Werle-Goldberg .

After the father's death, his brother Nicholas V ruled alone. From 1401 Christoph ruled together with his brother and after his death in 1408 alone over the rule. Since May 4th, 1418 he called himself "Prince of Wenden" on the basis of the chronicles of the Havelberg bishop Otto I von Rohr, in which he obtained evidence of his royal descent. He probably fell on August 25 in a battle near Pritzwalk in battle with Brandenburg troops.

He was probably unmarried and childless. After his death, the Goldberg line died out and his cousin Wilhelm inherited partial rule.
