Christoph Dohmen

Christoph Dohmen (* 1957 in Geilenkirchen ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian and Old Testament scholar.

Life

From 1976 to 1982 Christoph Dohmen studied Catholic theology , philosophy, Semitic and ancient oriental studies at the universities of Bonn and Cologne. For his dissertation on Dr. theol. 1985 ( The ban on images. Its origin and development in the Old Testament ) he received the Bonn University Prize. In 1988 he completed his habilitation in Old Testament science , also in Bonn. In the same year he was initially a deputy chair for exegesis of the Old Testament at the University of Osnabrück , and since 1990 professor. Since 2000 he has been a university professor for exegesis and hermeneutics of the Old Testament at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Regensburg .

Focus

Christoph Dohmen is particularly connected to the Jerusalem theological academic year ; he takes part in the selection process as a subject examiner and teaches as a visiting professor in Jerusalem. He is involved in Judeo-Christian dialogue in various ways , from 1997 to 2003 he was a member of the discussion group “Jews and Christians” at the Central Committee of Catholics and co-founder and spokesman (1997–2000) of the research center for Christian-Jewish studies at the university Osnabrück. Since 2005 he has been an advisor in the sub-commission for relations with Judaism of the German Bishops' Conference .

From 2001 to 2013 Dohmen was a member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission in Rome. He worked on the revision of the standard translation .
