Battalion 1944 is a multiplayer , first-person shooter from Square Enix set during World War II and released for Microsoft Windows on February 1, 2018 .
Gameplay
Battalion 1944 is a classic competitive shooter set in 1944 during World War II, with team-based ranking statistics and competitive matchmaking.
The game runs on dedicated servers and will support games over LAN in the future . Easy Anti Cheat (EAC) acts as an anti-cheat mechanism . Currently, the game modes Wartide (two teams of five people; two targets to be defended or destroyed), Capture the Flag , Domination and Team Deathmatch are available.
Development and publication
The game was first announced on February 3, 2016 as part of a Kickstarter campaign. The game was developed by Bulkhead Interactive in Unreal Engine 4 and is thus one of the first titles from the studio, which was merged from Deco Digital and Bevel Studios. After just three days, crowdfunding raised the amount of money needed to further develop the project. On February 1, 2018, the game was first released as part of Steam's Early Access program. This phase should take about a year. Kickstarter supporters should receive cosmetic benefits like loot boxes . In addition, all DLC packages are to be made available free of charge. The money is to be used for the development of the game and the financing of eSports tournaments. According to the official announcement, the game is to leave early access status on May 23, 2019. The Modtools were released on May 10, 2019.
reception
The game is compared by the press with the old parts of the Call-of-Duty series and comparable games from the late 1990s and early 2000s (" old school shooters") and appears to be a new title in the E area -Sport and thus as an alternative to games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive . The simple game principle with a focus on e-sports, the customization options, the controls and the graphics are also praised. However, many teething troubles and concepts that have not yet been fully developed, a lack of innovation in the genre, little more content than the competition and the use of loot boxes are also criticized.
