Christopher B. Frye

Christopher B. Frye (* 1956 in Columbus / Ohio ) is an American composer and music teacher .

Frye completed piano training in high school, but at the same time played in rock bands, was a member of his school's jazz band and was interested in electronic music. He then studied music theory and composition at the University of Cincinnati with Scott Huston and Jonathan Kramer and has been Professor of Composition and Music Theory at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse since 1984 .

As a composer, Frye primarily created commissioned works for people, groups or occasions. Stylistically, they range from traditional tonal to experimental electroacoustic music . Frye composed choral works, pieces for solo instruments and chamber music instrumental works. The compositions have been performed by ensembles such as the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and The Cincinnati Choral Society at various festivals and have received awards from the University of Maryland and the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs . Frye is a founding member of the Cincinnati Composers Guild and secretary and treasurer of the Wisconsin Alliance for Composers .
