Christ Church (Partenstein)
The Christ Church in Partenstein is a late Classicist church in the Spessart community of Partenstein in Franconia. It belongs to the deanery district of Lohr am Main of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria .
church
The Christ Church was built in the late classical style by Johann Schönmann according to plans by Johann Philipp Mattlener between 1830 and 1831. The church consecration took place on November 20, 1831. In 1921, the political community Partenstein donated the four bells of the church. In 1958 the organ of the church with 15 stops on two manuals and a pedal from GF Steinmeyer & Co. was installed.
Dispute over church square names
In 2016, on the occasion of the anniversary of the Reformation , the Protestant parish launched an initiative to name the square in front of the Christ Church “Martin-Luther-Platz”. After a fierce controversy in the village, the community council finally rejected the protestant church community's proposal with nine to six votes. The now unnamed village square between the church and the street “Am Herrenhof” divided Catholic and Protestant Christians in the place, who form roughly equal proportions of the population.
