The neo-Romanesque church was inaugurated on December 16, 1900 after 14 months of construction. At that time the 39 meter high church tower was not only a focal point, but also a point of orientation for hikers on the Elbe .
During the Second World War , the area around the church was largely destroyed and the church itself damaged.
On December 16, 1950, for the 50th parish festival, the renovated church was named Christ Church . On this day, the organ renewed by the Potsdam organ building company Alexander Schuke was inaugurated. In 1954 the community received a second bell and in 1964 a third bell.
