The Chubb Corporation was an international insurance group from the United States . The company was founded in 1882 and had approximately 120 offices in 27 countries in America , Europe , Asia and Australia . The company's shares were listed on the New York Stock Exchange and included in the S&P 500 .
history
The company had been based in Germany since 1976. Chubb Insurance Company of Europe was the European subsidiary of the US insurance group .
On 1 July 2015, the Swiss competitor announced ACE Limited to, Chubb for 28 billion US dollars to take over. The combined company will operate as Chubb Limited and will be based in Zurich . ACE boss Evan Greenberg will also lead the new company. The current ACE shareholders are to hold 70 percent of the new company. On January 14, 2016, ACE completed the acquisition and renamed itself Chubb Limited.
