Chuck Dunlap

Chuck Dunlap (born 1954 or 1955 in Oklahoma City ) is an American country and folk musician .

biography

Dunlap was born in Oklahoma City to a Baptist and grew up in that city. In his childhood he sang in the church choir. During his time in high school, he began writing songs and performing in cafes and bars.

In 1972 he moved to Stillwater and began studying mass communication at Oklahoma State University , which he dropped out after a year for financial reasons. As a student he met his current wife Victoria Robinson.

In Stillwater he also made contact with musicians such as Jimmy LaFave , Tom Skinner and Bob Childers and performed regularly. This period, in which he was involved with other artists on the scene in the anti-nuclear power movement , is now considered the time when Red Dirt Music was created .

Dunlap left Stillwater around 1980, before Red Dirt music gained supraregional importance. He first lived in Arkansas and later moved to Washington . He worked full-time as a carpenter, but returned regularly to Oklahoma for concerts. Since 2013 he has been living in Stillwater again. He has given up his job as a carpenter.

Dunlap's most famous songs include My Baby , which was featured in the television series Saving Grace . The title Drop Of Stillwater , which he wrote in the late 1970s, took third place at the 2003 Woody Guthrie Folk Festival .
