Chuck Pratt

Charles Marshall "Chuck" Pratt (born March 5, 1939 in California , † December 16, 2000 in Sang Khom , Thailand ) was an American pioneer of big wall climbing in Yosemite National Park .

In 1958, Pratt and Wally Reed made the first ascent of the north side of the Fairview Dome in Yosemite Park and in 1959 the east side of the Washington Column (also in Yosemite) with Warren Harding and Glen Denny, and the north side of Middle Cathedral Rock in Yosemite with Bob Kamps and Steve Roper .

In 1960 he was in a team with Royal Robbins , Tom Frost and Joe Fitschen on the second ascent of The Nose on El Capitan and in September 1961 he succeeded with Robbins and Frost on the first ascent of the Salathé wall on El Capitan. October 1964 he succeeded with Robbins, Frost, Pratt and Chouinard the first ascent of the "North American Wall" on El Capitan, which took nine days and was the first route on El Capitan that was climbed in one go without abseiling.

He later worked as a mountain guide and taught climbing in the Teton Ranges .
