Chys Khan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chys Khan ( Yakut ) is a symbol of Turkish mythology, predominantly in Yakut Sacha . The name is pronounced like in Turkish as "Kış Kaan" and means "ruler / khan of winter". Alternative names are "bull of frost / winter" or "mammoth of frost / winter".

Like Santa Claus, the Christ Child and Father Frost, it is a symbol of family love and giving presents to children.

The ruler of winter also plays an essential role as a legend and fairy tale figure.

He is depicted as a friendly man with a long white beard, a blue, white and black robe trimmed with white fur , a pointed headgear with two long horns and a long white scepter .

The appearance of the "ruler of winter" is interpreted as bull-like, but it resembles a mammoth, which has its place in Turkish shamanism . In modern times, old wooden images of mammoths were found in shaman's tents.
