Cindytalk is a British musical group best classified in the experimental music category . The Scottish musician Gordon Sharp (* 1961) is still the permanent and constant leader of the band.
history
The beginning time
Cindytalk emerged in 1982 with founding members Gordon Sharp (vocals) and David Clancy (guitar, keyboards) from the Edinburgh punk and new wave band The Freeze . The Freeze (1976-1982) released two singles, recorded two sessions with John Peel and played supportive with various well-known bands of the time in Great Britain.
After Cindytalk settled in London in 1982, the band began work on the debut album Camouflage Heart , which with its new, darker and more fragmented sound is influenced by both post-punk and early European industrial music . In 1983, John Byrne joined Sharp and Clancy and proved to be an excellent addition to Cindytalk's grueling clay collages.
1983 Sharp took a John Peel session with the originating also from Scotland Cocteau Twins on ( Dear Heart at a later British release of the album Garlands ), to a meeting with the boss Ivo Watts-Russell of 4AD led, of him finally in same year to record This Mortal Coils debut EP Sixteen Days / Gathering Dust . Alongside Lisa Gerrard and Elizabeth Frazer, Sharp was one of the featured singers on This Mortal Coil's 1984 debut album It'll End in Tears . He continued his vocals with Kangaroo (a song that was released as a single and quickly became a hit in the independent charts ) as well as in the songs Fond Affections and A Single Wish .
At the same time, the debut album Camouflage Heart received attention from the British music press and reached number 22 on the UK Independent Chart. Shortly after the release, David Clancy left the band and was replaced by siblings Alex and Debbie Wright. The monumental work In This World was created over the next three years . These are two albums with covers designed by Kathy Patterson. The first album is full of fragmented and noisy moments, while the second documents Sharp's rather calm, but also often experimental piano improvisations. The song Janey's Love was created in collaboration with punk writer Kathy Acker .
Bambule
The Bambule electronic project began in 1994 with a collaboration between Sharp and Carmichael.
