former Cine Valira

The Cine Valira was the first cinema in Andorra .

In 1934 the cinema opened in the Hostal Valira in Escaldes-Engordany . The operator was the Ribas Duró family. The two 35 mm film projectors came from Supersound SA in Barcelona . The designer Hugo Texidó had developed these machines with the designation Supersound-Vanguard III . They were equipped with arc lamps that served as a light source with an arc burning in air between the graphite electrodes. The projectors were in use until the late 1950s and were restored in 2007 with the support of the Julia Reig Foundation . You are in the museum today.

Since the renovation and restoration work in 2005, the former cinema building has been operated as the Museum Center d'Art d'Escaldes , and there is a bank in the front part of the former cinema .
