Cinema Olímpia

The Cinema Olímpia is a former cinema in the center of the Portuguese city of Porto .

history

The cinema was built according to plans by the architect João Queirós . From the original plan for a new theater building on Rua Passos Manuel , only the auditorium was realized.

The cinema was opened on May 18, 1912 by its owner Henrique Alegria. The newspapers reported on the elegant and luxurious furnishings. In the 1980s the cinema was closed. A bingo hall ( Bingo Olympia ) and a disco ( Boîte ) were later housed here.

The building is a historical monument.
