Cinema Roxy
The Cinema Roxy is a former cinema in the center of the Portuguese capital Lisbon . It was built on Avenida Almirante Reis in the municipality of Arroios and inaugurated on December 11, 1930 under the name Lys .
The cinema was owned by Abraão de Carvalho , the founder of Lisboa Films . Under its manager Joaquim Pedro dos Santos the cinema with its 553 seats gained a loyal audience. After renovations, it was reopened on June 26, 1973 under the name Roxy , but it never reached the popularity of previous years. It was closed at the beginning of April 1988.
