Ciro Ciliberto

Ciro Ciliberto (born October 14, 1950 in Naples ) is an Italian mathematician who deals with algebraic geometry.

Ciliberto received his doctorate in 1973 at the University of Naples , where he was assistant professor and from 1977 professor. In 1980 he received a full professor at the University of Lecce and in 1981 for Algebraic Geometry at the University of Naples. From 1985 he was professor of higher geometry at the University of Rome (Tor Vergata).

He was visiting professor at Harvard University (1979/80) and Brown University (1986/87) and visiting scholar a. a. at the IMPA , at the CRM in Barcelona, ​​at the Mittag-Leffler-Institut , in Amsterdam, Göttingen, Hanover, Lisbon, Bucharest, Recife and the Colorado State University.

In particular, he researches projective curves, algebraic surfaces, Abelian varieties and their modular spaces and projective differential geometry.

From 1990 to 1995 he was Vice President of the Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica F. Severi .

He became President of the Italian Mathematical Society (UMI) in 2012 . He is co-editor of the Rendiconti del Circo Matematico di Palermo and editor of the UMI Lecture Note Series. He is a member of the Accademia dei Lincei and the Academy of Sciences of Naples.

He was co-editor of the works of Giacomo Albanese and Ruggiero Torelli .
