The Citizen Cup 1992 was the regatta series to determine the American defender (defender) in the America's Cup of the same year. Two defender syndicates with five International America's Cup Class yachts competed in the elimination regattas in four round robin rounds (each against each other). In the final, the defender of the America's Cup was determined against the winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup [elimination regattas for the challengers of the America's Cup].
America 3 was clearly superior to Stars & Stripes and was able to win the Citizen Cup and successfully defended the 28th America's Cup in 1992 against the Italian Il Moro di Venezia with 4-1 victories.
