City Disc

City Disc is a Swiss media provider. In the field of media providers, it is number 2 on the Swiss market behind the Migros subsidiary Ex Libris .

City Disc was founded in 1985 by Maus Frères Holding . In 2001, Maus Frères separated from City Disc and sold the company to Jelmoli . In 2005 the chain had 30 stores in Switzerland. After its conversion from a trading company to a real estate group (in 1998 all Jelmoli branches except the Zurich parent company went to Globus and in 2007 the Dipl. Ing.Fust went to Coop ), the Swiss subsidiary of the French telecommunications group Orange acquired the company in November 2008 its 24 shops. In spring 2012, Orange discontinued the Orange City Disc Shops concept . However, the online shop continues to operate.

Appearance

The shops have had typical yellow furnishings since their inception. Since the acquisition by Orange, some shops have been operating under the name Orange City Disc , in these shops the yellow look has been changed to orange and the new owner's services are now also being sold. The stores that had not been remodeled kept the name City Disc and their yellow color scheme. In 2009 the company had 20 branches, 14 Orange City Disc and 6 City Disc shops. In addition to the branches, City Disc also operates an internet shop.

In addition to CDs, the range in the online shop now also includes DVDs, Blu-rays, computer and console games and computer applications, but also board games, electronics, paper, photo paper and ink. In the former Orange City Disc Shops there are no longer any corresponding items to buy, these are now strictly Orange Shops .

  • City Disc has much higher prices than its competitors Ex Libris, Interdiscount or Manor, but a much larger selection even in small locations.
