City Place I is the name of a skyscraper in Hartford , Connecticut . It is 163.7 meters (537 ft ) tall , making it the tallest building in Connecticut, just under 3 meters taller than the Travelers Tower (160.6 meters). It was completed in 1984 after 4 years of construction and designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill . There are a few retail stores on the lower floors, but the majority is used as office space. The building is part of the City Place complex, which also includes City Place II, an 18-story office building that was completed in 1989.
On April 2, 2012, CommonWealth REIT bought the building for US $ 99 million from the former owner and namesake CityPlace LLC.
