Classical honors tripos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The English term Classical honors tripos is understood to mean an undergraduate three-year course in Classics at the University of Cambridge . The three-year standard period of study is extended to four years if no previous knowledge of ancient Greek is available. In Cambridge, however, it is not absolutely necessary to have already learned Ancient Greek at school for this course, as there are intensive courses in Ancient Greek that accompany the studies.

The Classics degree at Cambridge consists of the study of ancient languages ancient Greek and Latin , the study of ancient literature , the history of the ancient world , the art and archeology of the ancient world, the ancient philosophy and linguistics.

The equivalent at Oxford University are the literae humaniores . However, these always consist of a correspondingly more demanding four-year course.
