Claude-Emmanuel Lhuillier
Claude-Emmanuel Lhuillier (* 1626 in La Chapelle Saint-Denis , † September 1686 in Paris ), also called Chapelle after his birthplace , was a French poet and man of letters .
Born the son of the accounting clerk François Lhuillier, he attended the Collège Henri-IV de La Flèche , where he met René Descartes and Jacques Vallée Des Barreaux and became the latter's lover. He was a student of the philosopher Pierre Gassendi , whose Epicurean teachings he adopted. His circle of friends included Molière and Cyrano de Bergerac , he frequented the salon of Marguerite de La Sablière Hessein .
Lhuillier wrote mostly short satirical and libertine poems in the anacreontic style of Poésie fugitive . In addition, with François Le Coigneux he presented the Voyage curieux historique et galant, montrant plusieurs particularitez très considérables, ce qu'il ya de plus beau et de plus remarquable à voir au tour de la France, et autres traitez de galanterie, meslés de prose et de vers, par les plus beaux esprits de ce temps (1680) together. His complete works appeared in print in 1854, and were republished in 1977.
