Claude Poinssot

Claude Poinssot (* 1928 ; † 2002 ) was a French archaeologist .

Claude Poinssot was the son of the archaeologist Louis Poinssot , who worked in Tunisia . Like his father, he worked for the Tunisian Antiquities Service and from 1952 to 1961 was the inspector responsible for the ancient city of Thugga , where his father had already dug. He was also Secretary General of the Archéologique Française Mission in Tunisia. After the independence of Tunisia, he returned to France, where he continued his career in cultural administration and became inspector of the Musées de France.

The archive of the Poinssot family is now in the Institut national d'histoire de l'art in Paris.
