Claus Wenskus (also Nikolaus Wenskus or Klaus Wenskus ; * August 17, 1891 in Altona , today a district of Hamburg ; † 1966 ) was a German painter .

Life

He was called a marine painter because in many of his pictures he captured moods on the water, on the high seas and also in the port of Hamburg .

When he returned home seriously wounded from the First World War , he went into the commercial profession in a Hamburg coffee roastery and initially found painting only out of a hobby. Living close to the port of Hamburg made him so familiar with the atmosphere of the port and seafaring that he found most of his motifs here. In 1943 his apartment was destroyed by Allied bombs ; As a result, he became what was then known as a Butenhamburger (Low German; literally foreign Hamburger), because family ties then led him to Leck (North Friesland). Since then, Wenskus has devoted himself fully to painting.

His oil paintings and watercolors adorn the homes of drivers and shipping companies' offices . In addition, he is also known internationally.
