Cliff Bennett & the Rebel Rousers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers were a British beat band from the early 1960s.

history

After the first single by Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers was released in 1961, the band was already referred to by a press agency as the "number 1 beat group in London". However, it wasn't until Brian Epstein took over management that the breakthrough came. Cliff Bennett became an absolute teen idol after One Way Love stormed to # 12 on the UK charts in October 1964.

The next of their recordings were unsuccessful before they came to the top 10 for the first time with a cover version of the Beatles album Revolver ( "Got To Get You Into My Life" ). However, the song should become much better known in the interpretation by the Beatles themselves.

In 1970 Bennett disbanded the Rebel Rousers and formed Toe Fat , a progressive group that recorded two LPs . When he had little success with Toe Fat, however, Bennett re-used the old group name. In October 1972 he produced another single under Toe Fat on Chapter One .

In their early days, Frank Allen of the Searchers and Nicky Hopkins, who became known as a studio musician , played occasionally with them.
