Closed is a German fashion brand with headquarters in Hamburg .

Company history

The company was founded in 1975 under the name Ca in France. A large Dutch company saw its trademark rights being violated by the naming and obtained an injunction . For the duration of the process, the collections were presented under the file number 11342. After the file was closed, the brand was quickly renamed "Closed" in 1978.

In the early 1990s, the Hamburg business partners Günther Giers and Hans Leplow acquired the company and sold it together with the brand in 2004 to Günther Giers' son Gordon and his business partners Til Nadler and Hans Redlefsen. These restructured the company and expanded the collections.

In 2009 the managing directors Giers, Nadler and Redlefsen were named “Hamburg Entrepreneur of the Year” by the business associations “Die Familienunternehmer - ASU” and “Die Junge Unternehmer - BJU”.

With the discovery of the stonewashed process, Closed made a name for himself in the denim market in the 1980s . A special cut in the trouser pocket area set jeans apart: the X-Pocket, which is patented worldwide. The “Pedal Pusher” jeans model introduced in 1978 was widely used and has been sold well over 30 million times to date.

In 2018 Closed GmbH had more than 300 permanent employees and was available in Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, France, Holland, Belgium, Great Britain, Russia and the USA. There are 50 closed shops worldwide. The main collections for women and men appear four times a year . The program is complemented by cashmere textiles , shoes and accessories.

Production conditions

A responsible and environmentally conscious attitude is a tradition at Closed. For this reason, the company launched the “Fair. Since 1978 ". Starting in Italy, the number one production location, Closed gradually provides information about how, where and with whom they are producing.

For around 40 years, Closed has had its jeans woven, sewn and dyed by hand exclusively by three Italian family businesses. We have also worked with the two cashmere producers in China and Italy since the 1990s. The lambskins for the jackets are purely by-products of the meat industry and are made by a Spanish tannery, a family business in the seventh generation. The quilted jackets can do without down feathers today. The leather bags come from factories in Portugal. Overall, more than 85 percent of Closed products are manufactured in Europe.
