Ellnrode is the smallest district of Gemünden (Wohra) in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .

The place is north of the core town of Gemünden on the Wohra between Kellerwald and Burgwald . The county road 109 runs through Ellnrode, the state road 3073 lies in the west .

The place name ending in -rode suggests a foundation between 800 and 1000 AD. Ellnrode was first mentioned in writing in 1223, in the hall book of the Haina monastery . At that time the small village consisted of four farms. Ellnrode is called in old documents 1223 Elrot, 1226/27 Elnrode, 1556 Elnrodt.

In 1927 the village belonged to the Rosenthal district court and the Frankenberg tax office . In 1933 the place had 27 inhabitants.

On January 1, 1974, the previously independent community Ellnrode the course was municipal reform in Hesse powerful state law in the city Gemünden at the Wohra incorporated . For Ellnrode, as for the other parts of the city, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was formed.

In 1987 the old community bakery was restored.
