history

Traces of human settlements are already known from the Stone Age , archaeological finds in the Donisse nature reserve prove this. Around 750 the place appears for the first time with the Celtic name Salaha (Herrenhof / Heiligtum am Wasser) belonging to the Lahngau. More than 1000 years ago as a place of jurisdiction, Sehlen was the center of the entire “Bunstruth”. Until the office was dissolved, Sehlen was the seat of the Bunstruth office. After that, from 1577 on, Sehlen belonged to the Rosenthal office. A fief directory of the pin weather from the 12th century mention goods of the pen in "selenium". In 1919 the town hall built in 1593 with the lower court was demolished due to its disrepair. In 1933 Sehlen had 270 inhabitants.

Sehlen missed a rail connection to the planned extension of the Kellerwaldbahn from Gemünden to Frankenberg at the end of the lost First World War , because the construction work that had begun was no longer continued.

Territorial reform

On December 31, 1971, the previously independent community Sehlen in the wake of was municipal reform in Hesse on a voluntary basis in the city Gemünden at the Wohra incorporated . For Sehlen, as for the other parts of the city, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was formed.

The Donisse

The Donisse or Burg Sehlen is located east of the town on a hilltop and is a lost castle, the formation of which probably goes back to the 9th century. Only the remains of the tower hill, ramparts and ditches can be seen. The facility was partially destroyed by a quarry. The corridor is designated as a nature reserve Donisse .
