Cluny MacPherson

Cluny MacPherson (born March 18, 1879 in St. John's , Newfoundland , † November 16, 1966 ) was a Canadian doctor . In addition to the American Garrett Morgan , Cluny MacPherson is considered to be the inventor of the gas mask .

Life

MacPherson studied medicine at McGill University in Montreal . During World War I , when poison gas was first used, MacPherson made a gas mask for use by soldiers. He served as a soldier for the Royal Newfoundland Regiment . MacPherson married Eleanora Thompson in 1902 and had two children with her.
