The Cobana GmbH & Co. KG (formerly Cobana Fruchtring, proper spelling Cobana) is a German fruit and vegetables trading company. The company imports and distributes fresh fruit and vegetables with close ties to production overseas. Owners in the 2018 financial year are seven independent fruit trading companies that are spread across Germany and supply the food retail trade (LEH) and other sales lines with fruit and vegetables.
The subsidiary Baneurope GmbH & Co. KG, Hamburg, represents the connection to the food retail trade on the sales side, while Cobana Verwaltungs GmbH is a pure general partner GmbH.
history
In 1964, on the initiative of Helmut Pott (Walter Pott Fruchtimport und Bananenreiferei, Leverkusen), 48 German fruit wholesalers merged to form the “Cobana” banana purchasing company in order to jointly strive for a strong competitive position in the German banana business. In 1979 the shareholders of the group installed the Fruchtring trading company for the procurement of further products from overseas.
With effect from January 1, 2001, both companies were merged to form Cobana Fruchtring GmbH & Co. KG.

As of mid-2020, the COBANA Group is an association of five independent medium-sized fruit wholesalers from Germany, each of which is a partner in COBANA GmbH & Co. KG in Hamburg.

activity
Hamburg-based COBANA GmbH & Co. KG is the holding company responsible for the global procurement of fruit and vegetables from overseas. In addition, it organizes sales to food retail companies or groups of companies with a national and European presence.
The above tasks are supported by a marketing service.
The range includes all core items in the overseas range (bananas, pineapples, apples, pears, kiwis, grapes, citrus fruits, stone fruits, mangoes and avocados). The companies based in the regions also market the entire range of fruit and vegetables from German and European production. Furthermore, the shareholders in the regions take on various services such as logistics, storage, ripening and packaging.
COBANA GmbH & Co. KG is certified according to IFS Broker, QS, Bio and Fairtrade.
