COBRA is a screen reader , i.e. a screen reader program for Microsoft Windows . The software was developed by Baum Retec AG based in Wiesenbach in Baden-Württemberg . Version 8 was released for the first time in November 2008.
After taking over the assets of the insolvent predecessor company, VisioBraille GmbH continues to offer help with the screen reader COBRA, its download and license activation. The in-house braille displays are also fully supported.
history
COBRA is the joint successor to the two German screen readers Blindows from the former company Frank Audiodata (later Audiodata GmbH ) and VIRGO von Baum. After Baum bought Frank Audiodata in 2004 and changed its name to Audiodata GmbH , the company had two completely different screen readers. From then on, the two development teams worked on a common screen reader. The development of Blindows and Virgo was stopped in 2006. In November 2008, COBRA 8, the first version of the new development branch, was published, version 8.1 followed in April 2009. These versions only contained Braille and speech output ; an enlargement component was still missing. The WebFormator , an add-on for Internet Explorer from the same company, was also used for reading websites. In January 2010, COBRA 9 was released. This version now also includes an enlargement function . In addition, the WebFormator, which was obsolete at the time, was replaced by the COBRA Explorer, which was firmly integrated in COBRA . Version 9.1 was released in December 2010, version 10 in November 2012.
COBRA 11, which is designed for Windows 8 and 10, was released in May 2016.
