Codex Palatinus Latinus 577

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Codex Palatinus Latinus 577 , abbreviated to Pal. lat. 577 , is a canonical collective manuscript that was probably written in the Fulda monastery towards the end of the eighth century .

It consists of 75 parchment sheets in the format 30 × 23.5 cm. As early as the 13th century, the codex was safely in the Mainz Cathedral Library. In 1479 he was in Mainz, then later in the Bibliotheca Palatina in Heidelberg and last came to Rome in 1623 in the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana .

In addition to the first version of the collection of canons of Dionysius Exiguus , for which there is only one other tradition, the Codex contains Franconian legal texts and council resolutions. Included are u. a. Nomina Episcoporum et Abbatum Attiniaci Congregatorum (created approx. 760–762) and Karlomanni Principis Capitulare from 742 and Concilium Vernense from 755. Only in this manuscript are the Indiculus superstitionum et paganiarum and, under the Latin title Interrogationes et Responsiones Baptismales, the Saxon Taufgeles . Because of these additions, it is assumed that the codex was used in the Sachsenmission.
