from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Codex Ríos , also Codex Vaticanus 3738 (Cod. Vat. A, Cod. Ríos), is an Aztec codex and is located in the Vatican Apostolic Library .

description

Together with the Codex Telleriano-Remensis ( Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris ), the Codex Rios served generations of scholars as the " Stone of Rosetta " for deciphering the religious manuscripts of the Borgia Group . At least part of the text is ascribed to Pedro de los Ríos , a Dominican brother who worked in Oaxaca and Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza between 1547 and 1562. Otherwise little is known about him and his activities. Lord Kingsborough was the first to publish a facsimile of this manuscript with an English translation from Italian (Kingsborough 1831-1848). The Trecena pages are particularly informative for their detailed description of the gods cartridge of the Nahua - pantheon . Some scholars believe that the manuscript depicts religious values especially of the Tehuacan Valley Kingdom.
