The Coffin Rock is a cliff 400 m north of Visokoi Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . The rock rises 1.5 km east-southeast of Finger Point .
The crew of the Discovery II mapped it in 1930 during the British Discovery Investigations . The naming background has not survived. Obvious is a descriptive meaning (from English coffin , coffin, shrine of the dead ).
