Coke La Rock (born April 24, 1955 in New York ) is a pioneer of rap / hip hop in the Bronx in the 1970s, who is sometimes referred to as the “first MC ” or “first rapper”, but this cannot be exactly clarified .

Career

He was the MC of the first New York DJ of old school rap, the "Father of Hip Hop" Kool DJ Herc , who brought proto-rap ideas like toasting from his Jamaican homeland to the USA. With the group Herculoids, La Rock rapped at block parties and clubs in the Bronx from 1973 and invented standard rhymes like “You rock! .. and dooon't stop” or “Hotel, motel, we don't tell” in Sugarhill Gangs " Rapper's Delight " were simply taken over without asking. Already by this time in the late 1970s, La Rock was disappearing completely and never making big money.

In 2010 he was in the press again after a long time when he was inducted into the "Counterculture Hall of Fame".
