Colin Coates (born October 26, 1985 in Belfast ) is a Northern Irish football player who is under contract with Crusaders FC in the NIFL Premiership .

Career

Colin Coates began his career in 2001 with Crusaders FC in Northern Ireland's top division, the IFA Premiership . In the first three seasons he achieved moderate placements with the Crusaders, but managed to stay in the top division. In the 2004/05 season Coates had to contest the relegation playoffs to maintain the league with the team as the second bottom of the league, lost in two games against Glenavon FC and rose to the IFA Premiership 1. After only one season in the second division, the immediate promotion was possible. In the following two seasons Coates reached the sixth and seventh place in the league.

In the 2008/09 season, the team finished the IFA Premiership in 3rd place, which Colin Coates qualified for the first time with the Crusaders for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League . The opponent in the two games was the Macedonian club Rabotnički Skopje . After the first leg in Northern Ireland ended 1-1, the Crusaders were defeated 4-2 away and were eliminated from the competition. In 2009 Coates also won the Irish Cup with the club . In the final, Cliftonville FC were defeated 1-0. On January 20, 2010 also succeeded in winning the County Antrim Shield , a Northern Irish cup competition. In this game Colin Coates managed the interim equalizer to 2-2, before the Crusaders won thanks to a goal from Jordan Owens in overtime.

National team

Colin Coates made his debut on June 6, 2009 for the Northern Irish national soccer team . The game against Italy in Pisa was lost 3-0. He could play through the entire game.
