COLLADA ( COLLA bora tive D esign A ctivity ) intended as an XML -based open interchange format for data between different 3D are established programs. It is not only about the transfer of models and textures , settings and applied change steps should also be able to be transferred from one program to another. Various manufacturers of 3D programs are involved in the development and specification of the format. But communities such as those around the open source program Blender were invited to support and expand the format.

COLLADA files have the file extension .dae (digital asset exchange) and are structured using an XML schema . Collada has been in version 1.5.0 since October 2008.
