Johann Robert Bindschedler (born July 30, 1844 in Winterthur , † August 20, 1901 in Basel ) was a Swiss chemist and industrialist .

biography

Bindschedler grew up as the son of an innkeeper. He attended high school in Winterthur and studied chemistry at the Zurich Polytechnic after graduating . He then switched to the chemical industry, where he quickly took on leading positions. He was the first non-businessman to head a large Swiss chemical industrial company, until 1899 of Ciba AG . He resigned in connection with a fraud conviction.

In 1870 Binschedler married Désirée Alexandrine, b. Fèvre, who died in 1878. In 1882 he married for the second time, with Maria Magdalena geb. Kerbler from Vienna. Maria Magdalena died after eight years of marriage. Both marriages remained childless. In 1891 he married Jeanne Sydonie Elise, b. Tapestry. The children René Robert (1892), Elisabeth Jeanne (1894) and Jean Rodolphe (1896) resulted from the marriage.

Honors

He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Zurich . The pigment Bindschedler's green bears his name .
