Max Grob

Max Grob (born January 2, 1901 in Zurich ; † December 21, 1976 in Zurich ) was a Swiss pediatric surgeon .

He was the first Swiss surgeon to exclusively work in pediatric surgery. He began his work in 1928 in the children's hospital in the Canton of Zurich. In 1936 he finished his training as a child surgeon in Zurich. From 1939 to 1971 he was the chief physician of the surgical clinic at the Children's Hospital in Zurich.

In 1947 Grob carried out the first successful operation ( Blalock-Taussig ) on a child with Fallot tetralogy in Europe. In 1957 he introduced artificial hypothermia and in 1959 used a heart-lung machine for the first time . Grob was the first Swiss pediatric surgeon to perform pull-through surgery for Hirschsprung's disease .

He was a member of international pediatric surgical organizations and received the Dennis Browne Memorial Medal of the British Association of Pediatric Surgeons (BAPS) in 1969 . Grob was an honorary member of the German Society for Pediatric Surgery .
