The Collins skirt is a flat rock island in the archipelago of the Windmill Islands off the Budd Coast of the East Antarctic Wilke country . It is located on the south side of the entrance to McGrady Cove , a side bay of Newcomb Bay .
The island was mapped on the basis of aerial photographs of the US American Operation Highjump (1946–1947) from February 1947. In 1957, the crew of the icebreaker USS Glacier carried out a survey. The name was given at the suggestion of the navigator of this icebreaker, Lieutenant Robert Carl Newcomb (1926-2008). Namesake is the machinist of the USS Glacier , Frederick A. Collins, who was part of the survey team.
